Mariam Mohammed Al-Khatib (Khateeb)
A Palestinian writer, poet, and dental student currently based in Egypt. A survivor of genocide and displacement, she uses literature as a form of resistance and a vessel for memory. Her work has appeared in We Are Not Numbers, Avery Review, This Week in Palestine, and Palestine Deep Dive.
Mariam is the author of The City’s Memory, illustrated by Billie Ruffian.
The City's Memory
A poetic recollection of Gaza’s living inheritance, shared and multiplied among its inhabitants. The memories of the author, although personal, are testimonies of the city, the land, the people, the persistence of a place that refuses to be erased. Sights and so…
“This text is not a book. It is an attempt: to write the unwritable, to preserve what slips away, to let memory declare itself as a living body – as a city that speaks through all of us.”—inner pages
In addition to her work as a writer, Mariam is a translator, community activist, content creator, tatreez artist, and oud player. She has participated in the Hult Prize.
