Jehad Abu Dayya
A medical student and poet from Gaza. He was displaced from Gaza City on October 13th, 2023, and is currently still displaced in Deir Albalah in South Gaza. His debut poetry collection in Arabic: مذبوح في هامش الوقت was published by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture. Exploring war, displacement, love, loss, and distance, the book is available in print in the West Bank.
Jehad’s zine was written over the course of his displacement during the ongoing genocide.
“The inspiration to write a comic started with my many experiences with displacement, as I left my house next to Al-Shifa Hospital and was then displaced from one place to another. I thought of the art of comics as an international art to convey the images of our suffering to the whole world, and this is the least of daily suffering.”
Jehad Abu Dayya and Esraa el-Banna were both part of the Yara’at Writing Club in Gaza when the war broke out. Amid genocide and displacement, for months they wrote letters to one another. Fourteen letters are compiled in a zine, along with illustrations by Esraa. The Final Scene is available for purchase as a risograph printed zine, or as a PDF. You can find it here.
