Gaza Speaks When the World Falls Silent

A reclamation of knowledge and pursuit of purpose through testimony and language learning. English, “a language once associated with power and dominance, turns into a tool of resistance in Palestinian hands.” This collection of short personal essays documents the challenge facing Gaza’s educated youth: to pursue their dreams while enduring a nightmare of survival.

Letter to the Reader
This zine is not just a collection of texts, but a living testimony from Gaza. We are not numbers in the news, we are human beings who dream, love, suffer, and resist. These pages carry our voices and collective memory, reminding the world that behind every word there is a person with a story, a right to dignity, and a hope for life. I write to say that peace which ignores our children’s hunger and our people’s fear is no peace at all. I hope readers approach these texts with open hearts, remembering that Gaza is not only a place of suffering but also of resilience, creativity, and memory.

About the Author
Shams Mazen Rajab, a graduate of English Language and Teaching Methods at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, is a Palestinian writer and translator. Her work documents daily life under siege and transforms pain into testimony. Through essays, poetry, and translations, she insists that Palestinians are not mere numbers but human beings with memory, culture, and hope for a better future. Writing in both Arabic and English, she opens a window to Gaza and affirms that words can resist erasure.
