A Drop of Grief
In this twenty-four page zine, eleven poems provide a window view into a soul willing itself not to break while witnessing a world of death, condemned upon Gaza. Inquisitive, insightful, inventive, and intelligent, Alisawi’s words sketch lines of perspective for an entire generation of Palestinian youth, forsaken by the world.
Letter to the Reader
All of what I own in my life are my words, and now I’m giving them to you. Hold them, embrace them, think of us. Genocide has been feeding our souls with horror, grief, trauma, and daily-life challenges that we could never have imagined existed before it began. I pour our collective grief into words, so you can feel even a little of what we face.
Let these words be a guide: Be bold to express your darkest feelings and thoughts; never be ashamed. Somewhere, there is someone who waits for you to describe their alien feelings and wants to feel understood.
Words are all I am.
Words are all I have to resist, to speak, to breathe.
When I write, words set me free.
